The Term Biodiversity is used widely but its meaning, nature, characters, scope and applications are different. The totality of gene, species and ecosystem is regarded as biodiversity. We are familiar with species diversity. Small to smaller and large to larger or from big to bigger components of organisms are regarded as bio resources and they may be living or non-living in nature. So, for the ecosystem flow process, resource management is important though all components are generated by nature. Hence, resources and its direct connection with biological components are essential. In this book general as well as applied aspects of biodiversity and resource management have been placed in a variety of ways. Dr. Debabrata Das (b.1969) Ph.D. in Botany (Plant Ecology) from Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, West Bengal is presently working as Associate Professor of Botany and Head, Department of Botany, Government General Degree College, Lalgarh at Binpur-I, Lalgarh, Jhargram, W.B. He acted as IQAC Co-ordinator of the same College and acted as Govt. officer since 2002 under West Bengal Educational Service (W.B.E.S). He is a pioneer researcher in the College and also this lateritic Southwest Bengal zone. He was a research fellow (JRF and SRF) of forest productivity project funded by ICFRE, Dehradun and done his work at southwest Bengal forests from ‘Centre for Natural Studies (CNS)’ at Raja N.L.Khan Women’s College, Midnapore, W.B. Later on he worked as JRF and SRF at Central National Herbarium (CNH), Botanical Survey of India (BSI), Shibpore, Howrah, W.B. under ‘Flora India Project’. He has worked in various Medicinal Plants Conservation Areas (MPCAs) as expert with his team at Eastern Himalayan part, Dooars and in South Bengal (Susunia Hills) of W.B. He authored more than 100 scientific research papers and 4 books in Environmental studies and in Botany.

The work is enriched by the extensive academic and research experience of Dr. Debabrata Das, a botanist and researcher specializing in plant ecology and environmental studies. Dr. Das holds a Ph.D. in Botany (Plant Ecology) from Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, West Bengal, and has served as an Associate Professor of Botany and Head of the Department of Botany at Government General Degree College, Lalgarh, Jhargram, West Bengal. He has also served as an IQAC Coordinator and as a government officer under the West Bengal Educational Service.

Dr. Das has undertaken extensive research on forest productivity, plant ecology, biodiversity, and medicinal plant conservation. His research experience includes work supported by the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), Dehradun, as well as research at the Centre for Natural Studies and the Central National Herbarium of the Botanical Survey of India. He has also contributed as an expert to Medicinal Plants Conservation Areas in regions including the Eastern Himalayas, Dooars, and South Bengal.

With more than 100 scientific research papers and four books to his credit in the fields of Botany and Environmental Studies, Dr. Das brings substantial academic and field-based expertise to the subject.
